Target Audience
5th Grade English Class
Big Idea
Exposure to different writing styles creates creativity for compositions.
Overall Goal for the Lesson
Introduce students to different forms of writing in order for them to find their own style of writing. Students will search online for different writing styles to get ideas for how they want to write their own composition.
Standard 5: WRITING: Applications
Through the exploration of different types of writing and the characteristics of each, students become proficient at narrative (stories), expository (informational), descriptive (sensory), persuasive (emotional appeal), argumentative (logical defense), and technical writing. Writing demonstrates an awareness of the audience (intended reader) and purpose for writing.
ISTE CNETS Students Standards Adressed
Students use technology to locate, evaluate, and collect information from a variety of sources.

Lesson Plan Ideas
English Lesson:
In a 5th grade classroom, you could have students learn how to format a letter using Word. Show the students how it works and let them practice by writing letters to eachother and peer edit them to also practice with grammar and spelling.

5th grade science or social studies:
In a 5th grade lesson, a teacher could have students use a search engine research a topic of choice in the subject of science or social studies. For example, after a lesson about the states or countries, a teacher could have students make travel brochures about that state or country.
Steve White
1st-5th Music Lesson:
A teacher can let students listen to rhythms, patterns, notes, and songs with headphones while following along on a computerized keyboard on a monitor. Students can then repeat the patterns and songs and gain a better understanding of musical notes, patterns, songs, and rhythms through hands on technology.
Steve White
Music Lesson:
Around the classroom, the teacher can have all of the different notes for the treble clef including the counts, pictures and names. The students can then work as partners or alone and "compose" their own song using the notes around them. They can use the instruments around the classroom to help them get the right beats in each measure. After getting them approved by the teacher and getting any help my might need, they will then practice their songs and perform them for their classmates. This will help students recognize notes, show their understanding of time signatures and their ability to relate what they see around the classroom to their learning.

Science/Nature Lesson:
In a 5th grade classroom, you can have them go outside and collect things from nature. They can then bring them inside and using dichotomous charts, classify the objects according to physical features that they observe.
Marrell Johnson
Social Studies Lesson:
In a thrid grade class you could assign every child in the class a different American President. You could then allow them to go to the computer lab and research on the internet their specific president. Once they have done all of their research they can make a poster and present it to the class.
Erica Huseby
Science Lesson:
In a second grade class you could introduce students to dinosaurs. You could then give them a guided sheet of different webpages they can go to to research their dinosaurs. After they get a chance to research you can have them present their ideas to the class.
Erica Huseby
SCIENCE LESSONS:
A good way to integrate the technology we are learning into our lesson plans would be to take a topic in science we are doing that incorporates graphing or computation, and let the students explore on the computer with graphing programs to let them see how we use technology to synthesize data and to analyze.
Allison
MORE LESSON IDEAS:
Another way to let students work with technology in lessons is to have students pick a topic in science that they are interested in, but that they have limited knowledge about. Let the students use the internet and search online for information about the topic. This will allow you to show them how to effectively search online while also giving them new knowledge about subjects that they didn't know as much about before.

Assignment for Next Class
We are supposed to post lesson plan ideas for incorporating technology in the classroom. So if each of us can post 2 ideas...like, edit on the existing post, that would be super! Thanks :o) To add to Erica's current post, please go to the right side of the screen and click on "customize". Then click on the "Posting" tab on the left side of the next screen. After that, click on "Edit Posts" and just add to the post Erica started. Let me know if that's confusing!
Yay I Did It!
Welcome to Team MESA! Hope you all got here and figured it out...sorry that I had to start a new one...I was super confused in class :o)
